Human head found on Florida beach prompts investigation

A human head was discovered washed ashore on a beach in Key Biscayne on Tuesday, prompting a police investigation.

The Miami-Dade Police Department (MDPD) covered the remains with a blue tarp and cordoned off a section of the beach with crime scene tape. Homicide detectives are currently investigating the case, while the medical examiner's office is working to identify the remains, police reported.

Police said it is too early to determine if the discovery is connected to the disappearance of a teenage boy who went missing while swimming off Miami Beach on Saturday.
